Diwali which is also called or known by festival of lights is one of the India’s biggest festival celebrated by the Hindus across India. Diwali also called as Deepawali (Dipawali) means lamps lighted in the rows that is why it is also called festival of lights. Every year Diwali is celebrated in the month of Kartik which usually comes in the month of October or sometimes in November. Most of the countries like Sri Lanka, Singapore and Nepal including India have Diwali as an official holiday. Diwali is the most popular festival of India which is celebrated for consecutive 5 days. During Diwali we see lot of fireworks being let off by the children with lot of fun and joy all across India. This year in 2016 Diwali is going to be celebrated on 30th October which is last Sunday of the October whereas in south part of India deepawali is going to be celebrated on 29th of October 2016.

Diwali, the biggest festival celebrated by Hindus across India and Worldwide. Deepawali or Diwali is named being a diyas special festival. Diwali means, ie festival of lights. Thus equipped with rows of lights Diwali, the festival is called. It is celebrated on the new moon of the month of Kartik mahaparva, dark night which is being illuminated by the light of the numerous lamps.

Tradition of burning Diyas in Diwali has many different reasons and stories behind the practice of lightening diyas in deepawali. According to Hindu beliefs Ram devotees believes that Lord Sri Ramchandraji returned to Ayodhya from his fourteen year banishment and also after putting to an end of Ravan era as a symbol of Asuri practices.

Why is Deepawali Festival Celebrated in India

When Ram became the king people of Ayodhya celebrated the occasion of rajkaran by lighting diyas. That is way diwali is one of the major festivals of the Hindus. But as per the followers of lord Krishna on this very day Lord Krishna killed the oppressive king narakasura. The brutal slaying of monsters spread delighted the public and people full of joy lit ghee lamp. According to a legend on this day lord Vishnu in the getup of Narasimha killed Hiranyakashyap and also the belief say that on this day Lakshmi appeared.
